Full disclosure--holding myself accountable!!

I went to visit my niece and nephew and got caught up in a sticky situation, literally. Cici's all you can eat buffet for JUST $3.99!!! Not sure if any of you have been there but it represents everything good and evil in this world. This car wash business model had people coming and going like no other place I've been witness to. The 40 ft. buffet bar started with salad, followed by any type of pizza you can imagine, and then ending with brownies, some apple crisp concoction and then CINNAMON BUNS!! I had 3 of these terrible but dreamy desserts. This is where we all need to have more restraint and be able to make the best of a bad situation OR we can succumb to our weaknesses and take the path of least resistance (which is exactly what I did). This is why nutrition is, in my opinion, the number 1 pillar to one's success in their path to establishing a healthier lifestyle. It's 80% nutrition and 20% training. I've always said that training is the easy part, nutrition is the HARD part.

My body pretty much hates me after the consumption of food within the past 12 hours. Last night was overkill on protein and today was an overkill in saturated fat and carbs. An hour and a half after leaving Cici's, I made my way over to the gym and spent 4o minutes on the treadmill. I felt like I had an entire loaf of bread wrapped in cheese sitting in my stomach while I ran. I did 2 cycles of a 15 minute followed by a 5 minute run. I covered 3.75 miles and then cooled down for the last quarter mile. I was miserable during the 10 minutes of actual running, but felt a sense of gratification afterward.

I have to survive one more birthday celebration tonight at Rio Grande, a Mexican joint. Nothing good comes from Mexican food, but I can assure you that I will not make the same mistake I made at Cici's. Remember, mistakes are a part of life, but "the only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing!" Nuff said.

MAN vs. FOOD

Fogo De Chao for dinner last night for my buddy Antonio's 30th birthday. I can't make it to his big birthday bash next weekend due to a wedding so we decided to splurge and meet for dinner. It was a bash alright, a protein bash blowout!I consumed so much meat I felt ill. I was in limbo feeling like John Candy in the movie, The Great Outdoors, and Adam Richman from Man vs. Food-Baltimore, where he challenges himself to eat 4 different cuts of meat (filet, N.Y. strip, delmonico, and a flat iron from the chuck) totaling 5 1/2 lbs of beef! Even though I had the card flipped over to "No Thanks" it was hard to resist temptation having been sat right by where all the food was coming out. One word........DISASTER!

The results are in.

No tear means no surgery! Just a grade 2 sprain in the medial and lateral meniscus. What a relief. Doc said to stay away from heavy lifting and that resuming football this weekend is ok provided I wear a brace. Quite frankly, this advice sounds a little off to me, which leads me to my next thought. Do doctors ALWAYS know what they're talking about?? I'm at peace with, what sounds to be, good news but is the advice "sound?" I would have to disagree here. I was expecting no other advice than to rest it and then when I'm done resting it, rest it some more. I'd love to partake in the 2 pre-season tourneys on Sunday but I'm having major reservations in doing so in fear of the consequences and repercussions of playing a minimum of 10 games. To play or not to play?

ARMS, calves and abs!!!!

Today's workload for arms was not nice, but NIIICCCE! I had 90 minutes to work with but had lots to cover. I started this workout with the 21 gun salute warm up. Light weights for 2 sets and 21 reps. I have to admit that I'm guilty of not actually performing a proper warm up prior to my sessions but for some reason today, I skipped rope and did 2 warm up sets. As a result, my workouts seemed great! I don't know why I did it but I'm glad I did. My mental focus was on point and the pumps were not nice, but NICE! I did heavy pushdowns with cable preacher curls, 4 sets, alternating hand position from close to wide to shift emphasis. Next up, rope pushdowns and inlcine "W" curls. Last on the agenda was cable kickbacks and lying cable curls (elbows down). These were the burners, just forcing blood into the muscles. It was NICE!

I shifted gears to calves and abs here. Seeing how I need the most work on my calves, I gave them most of my attention as time was running out. I tried to go heavy on the Free Motion calf and super slow on the seated calf raises (20 seconds of time under tension per rep). Not fun, but completely necessary. My ab workout was crap. I ran out of time b/c getting the footage is such a time suck. Oh well, I'll visit them tomorrow when I go for my run.

It's crunch time people!

You can always tell when Spring Break fever is upon us. All the folks with hopes and dreams of actually conquering their New Year's Resolutions quickly dissipate and become dormant for another year. But alas, their with disappearance emerges the college hotties flocking to the gym to get their swerve on the cardio machines, in hopes to be "that" girl on Spring Break, rockin' that string bikini that would make every father want to grab for his double barrel shotgun. It's great to see these young chickies gettin' after it. It brings back great memories of College Park. Frat boys setting up camp by the heavy dumbbells that they can't even lift and the 3rd floor cardio and indoor track area, packed with sorority chicks galore. Ahhhh, the good ole days.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand! I had a very fun / productive chest workout today and achieved unbelievable pumps. The plan for today was to do heavy presses and explosive plyometric push up movements. The heavy pressing movements felt refreshing. I grabbed and made it up to 100lbs on the incline and flat presses without hesitation. The behind the back clap push ups were hard, but fun. Ross Enamait does a triple clap push up that is just sick, sick, SICK! I'm nowhere near that guys level, he's a straight up monster. You'll see I got a double clap a couple times. Props to me, ha! The other plyometric moves were challenging and is what gave me that super pump. I thoroughly enjoyed this workout. If I had more time, I would have added a few more sets on my pressing movements as I got carried away with the "fun" part of the workout. Here's the rundown.

Incline dumbbell presses 55x8, 65x5, 80x5, 90x5, 100x5, 100x5

Behind the back-clap push ups 8, 8, 6

Flat dumbbell presses 100x5, 100x5, 100x5

Medicine ball power-over push ups 20, 20

Cable crossovers-low to high 30x15, 40x10, 40x8

Traveling explosive push ups

Back at it!

Literally. I had a good night's sleep, on the couch, and felt like a million bucks this morning. Not sure what the deal was with yesterday but I'm glad it's gone. I was fortunate enough to have another cancellation in my schedule which allowed for a lot of time for my workout. I take full advantage of these kind of days for they don't come often.

The goal was to combine back, which I missed yesterday, with legs, which I shouldn't really be doing per the doctor's orders. It hasn't been feeling too bad lately so I tried a few things. Nothing crazy until the split burpees to pull ups. To my surprise there wasn't any swelling despite the fact that it did "catch" twice during my 4 rounds of the split burpees. They say "Pain is just weakness leaving the body," so I kept rolling on through all 48 reps.

I love days like today. Lots of energy and free time equals productivity! I went for a run again-2 miles, low intensity and a 10 mph Tabata treadmill. I'd say I'm really pushing the envelope with how good this knee felt post workout today, but the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward and the biggest risk, is the risk not taken! Justified??????? Maybe.

Hanging on...

Today had to be one of THE longest days in recent memory! I was dragging ass all day and the day was creeping. I came home, ate, took a nap, then woke up late for a home client at 4. Yesterday's workout was awesome but today I feel like crap so I took the day off. No reason to push the envelope. I'll get a good night's sleep and train back and legs tomorrow. Ordinarily, I would never do this combo together but legs will be light considering I have my MRI Thursday.

I have a feeling the main contributing factor to my pounding headache might be nutrition i.e. lack of carbs. I am trying to stay committed to the no carbs after the 6 but it is grueling. I've said it time in and time out, my body handles carbs exceptionally well so I can't justify why I am doing this no carb after 6 thing. My body does feel much leaner and tighter since doing this on Sunday and Monday night but it may not be worth it in the end. Well, I'm going to stick with it for tonight. I'll hit the sack early since 4:45 comes pretty fast. I'll be back up and running tomorrow with good footage from the workout.

Paik, OUT!

85 minutes...

is how long it took me to get through today's workout. No time constraints, so I took my jolly sweet a@@ time to do shoulders, abs, and calves. I had fun with this workout despite it's difficulty level. I almost forgot how great of a workout is to be had given ample time.

Nothing really proved to be too difficult but the toes to bar was a first for me. The HSPU's were tougher than expected in the 10,8,6,4,2. I'm wondering how/if these HSPU's have effected my dumbbell shoulder presses. I feel like I haven't done then in forever. Next Monday, I'll give them a shot to see if my strength has gone up at all.

The rest of the workout was solid. I just have to keep up with my nutrition and I'll be set. No carbs tonight so dinner will be egg whites, ham, and some fat free cheese with chipotle hot sauce. Muscle Milk right before bed.

Only 98 days left til Memorial Day! YES, I'm still counting. Maybe only just over a month til Spring Break if I can just pull the trigger on somewhere to go before my baby boy is delivered. It'll be a while before I go on vacation once he arrives, so I mine as well go somewhere.

Doc says, "Lay off the legs!"

Sorry for the late update. I contemplated not blogging yesterday's workout for I had no footage and was taking care of some work. I finally went to get my knee checked out as it has progressively gotten worse. X rays came back negative and my MRI is scheduled for next Thursday at 4. I'm certain, nothing but bad news will come from this, but we'll see.

I did do arms and calves yesterday. My tris are sore and for good reason. I did a total of 16 sets of various exercises from overhead rope extensions and pressdowns, close grip bench presses, dips, and cable kickbacks. I would like more lateral head development in the tris but the long and the medial take the brunt of the load. I thought today's focus would definitely do the trick but it did not.

I alternated my triceps work with biceps. I did a total of 14 sets. I know, it sounds like a lot for biceps but you gotta work the two-headed monster! The exercises included Free Motion curls, top half chin up partials, preacher curls, and reverse curls.

Lastly, I did 80 reps on calves on the Free Motion calf machine. This was nothing like Monday's calf workout but I ran out of time. I know that sounds like the common thread with a lot of my workouts but it is the truth. My workouts are structured around when I have a rare cancellation. That leaves me with about 50 minutes to get it in and be ready for the next client. I move to a brand new schedule come March 1 so I'll make adjustments accordingly.

Today is usually cardio. I don't have football seeing how the mounds of snow will be with us til summer. The doc says to lay low, in the event that I may due more damage to my knee, but that isn't really an option. The plan was to hit up the gym and run, 35-40 minutes today and tomorrow at 65% of my target heart rate. I know, I really hate getting on the gerbil wheel but I can't sit on the couch all day. I did 4 miles at a slow jog. It was easy and surprisingly fun.

Another new wrinkle, from here on out til summer, will be no or very little carbs for dinner. This will be as extreme as it gets for me. I am NOT a big fan of low carb diets, despite they're effectiveness. As mentioned before, my body handles carbs very well and no carbs at dinner will be really difficult for me. Who's with me??

My thoughts on Tiger Woods!

Can't understand WHY everyone feels like they need an apology from Tiger. He's known for his ability to play GOLF! The fact that he's the most recognizable athlete is what got him his endorsements. He did NOT get endorsements for being a "family man." There's plenty of golfers who are "family men" and don't cheat on their wives, so why don't they have the endorsements?!?! It's b/c they can't play golf like Tiger and no one gives a S who you are if you're not WINNING! Who the F cares who he slept with and why he did it. It's an unfortunate situation for Elin and his kids, no doubt, but let's be honest, golf is not and will not be the same if he doesn't come back! All you haters can say what you want, but ratings will skyrocket when he decides to come back and DOMINATE the golf game. It is what it is, you don't have to like him and if you don't like what you're seeing, then change the channel. Oh wait, you can't b/c it's on EVERY broadcast! Interesting, for so many people who hate him now, why the hell are you watching and commenting? Better get used to Tiger, love him or hate him, he's everywhere you want or don't want him to be!

Plyos for upper too!

Rise and shine, this week's early morning workout is chest and abs. I attempted to leave earlier this morning but still managed to get to the gym with only 45 minutes to work with. I made the best of it though. Incline presses with rope crunches, decline cable presses with hanging leg raises with a 4lb med ball, and then plyo push ups with double crunches. This was fun as I have never gone back and forth between two different box heights (12" and 18" boxes). If you try this, be sure that you're not too far away from the box. You don't want to eat the floor.

Incline bench 135x10, 185x8, 205x6, 225x5, 225x5
Rope crunches 4 sets of 130x15

LF decline cable press 47.5x10, 52.5x8, 57.5x6
Hanging leg raises (4lb med ball) 3 sets of 15

Plyo push ups 12, 12, 12
Double crunches 3 sets of 4x12

Bounce!

It's been almost three weeks since I played any football on this bum knee and although it has gotten better, it's still not great. I found out the hard way post workout that this might be more than just a "little" meniscus tear.

I performed a pistol the other day for a client of mine and why I used my bad knee is a damn good question. As I got down to the very bottom of the squat, I knew coming back up was going to hurt a bit. To my estimation, the pain I felt on the concentric part of the movement was devastating, just like I anticipated it to be. Terrible idea and I am paying for it today. Surprisingly, for the amount of pain I was in, didn't carry over to today. Correction, the amount of soreness/swelling didn't carry over but I still felt it. Let's just say that it felt good enough for me that I thought I'd continue on with the plyos I did yesterday. I've been discouraged as of late that my injuries are taking so long to heal. Granted, it's only been 3 weeks but it seems like an eternity. I decided to do very little weight work, a few leg curls, extensions, leg presses, and RDL's before I got to the fun stuff.

I LOVE doing plyos! I decided that I would attempt multiple box jumps rather than a single box jump for height like yesterday. Today was all about bounce, spend as little time on the ground as possible. This routine brings back a lot of good memories from workouts when multiple trainers would join me in this workout in an attempt to catch the person in front of you. It helps keep the pace up, unlike how I was walking back to the start after my jumps. You'll see in the video clip how bad my conditioning is not having been able to run or get on the C2. Getting old sucks!

Feeling goooood!

I must say, I think this weekend's binge is doing wonders for me. Perhaps, I need weekends like that. I'll eat super strict mid week and then have 2 cheat meals, one for each day of the weekend. My nutrition has been pretty weak during the day. Just too much going on and no time to get a good meal in. I have to be better with planning.

I had no time restrictions today for my workout so it was a good one. I started with 1 to 1 burpee to chin ups. The plan was to do 50 chin ups regardless of however many sets it took me. It didn't take long and this was very impromptu, so next time I do this, I'll rip through these in no time. I should have put a clock on it.

The next superset was T bar rows with box jumps. My buddy, Alex (King of the box jump), busted my balls for having to take a step in on my 4 ft. box jump. Well, I'm back to that 4 ft. box jump without the step in. I was a little scared and almost punted the idea of trying this with my knee but lateral movement is where the concern lies. In my opinion, box jumps are more mental than anything else. You have to commit and go for it. Once you leave the ground, there's no turning back! He or she who hesitates, LOSES!

Next was Free Motion lat pulls and low rows with a supinated grip. I decided to superset a vertical pull with a horizontal pull here to finish up. It wasn't easy but damn if it didn't feel good. I only used 140 lbs at a pretty controlled tempo (202 tempo).

Before leaving the gym, I felt compelled to do 3 sets of bent over reverse dumbbell flyes. It's never enough!!! My shoulders, traps and rhomboids were incredibly sore from yesterday, which was shocking. I worked hard but wasn't expecting the aches today the way I did.

Here's the shortened version, one set of everything but the bent over reverse flyes.

Fat and happy!

So this weekend, the wheels fell off! Hell, the whole damn transmission dropped out!! I went hard with my diet for all of last week until Friday night through Sunday. I indulged a bit Friday night, then basically ate 3 servings worth of chicken with broccoli on Saturday night, and then ate a FULL BLOWN buffet at The Comus Inn for Valentine's Day brunch. Now, I will hold myself accountable for Friday and Saturday's debacle, but I was ambushed on Sunday. I had no idea I was going to buffet for brunch. Instead, the brunch was FULL BLOWN and when I say FULL BLOWN, I mean FULL BLOWN! There was Chesapeake eggs benedict, chocolate chip pancakes and waffles, bacon, sausage, mac and cheese, omelettes, fish, AND a dessert table. We're talking chocolate eclairs, full slices of cheesecake, 3 different types of mini cheesecakes, donut holes, and cookies! I suppose they had to go over the top to justify the $35 cost for brunch. I walked out of there disgusted and with every intention to come home and hit the gym. HOWEVER, upon my arriving home, food coma set in. I became one with the couch for about 2 hours, never making it to the gym. On a positive note, I did only eat once more on Sunday. Ugh, never again.

As for today, I got back to the grind. Regular breakfast at 5AM and then only 5 clients today. I had a small break and was only able to complete half the workout so I had to go back later in the afternoon to get the rest in, not ideal but it is what it is. I had a lot of energy from the crap load of food from yesterday. I didn't push too heavy today, but I worked pretty fast. I've really been liking the 10-5 program so I've been incorporating frequently as of late.

Behind the neck push presses 95lbs 10 thru 5
Gravitron pushdowns 4 sets 110x15

High pulls 4 sets 115x8
Barbell rotations 3 sets 10x10

Cable X's 25x12, 25x10, 25x10
Hanging windshield wipers 16, 16, 16

Lying lateral raises 10x10, 10x10

Free Motion calf-1 leg at a time 4 sets 200x15 (40 seconds of time under tension)

Seated calf raises 45x10 (30 secs), 55x10 (40 secs),
55x15 (35 secs), 55x15 (35 secs)

The worst part of this workout was the hanging windshield wipers. I never did like this exercise and I still hold the exercise in contempt for it ALWAYS kicks my ass. Last time I did this, I got 3 sets of 10. I willed my way to get 8 today. I think the idea is to get better right? Riggghhhttt. The calf work burned like hell. I went slower than normal to increase time under tension but damn, it hurts! My fellow compatriot, Matt Henry, says "I need to work on my girlish calves." He's so hurtful! I'll do my best, but that workout you gave me is just pure insanity.

Valentine's Day

Despite all the days off work from all the snow, I'm so relieved that today was Friday. One thing is for sure, it didn't feel like Friday. After putting in a full day's work from 6-2:30, without breaks, I must say that the most troublesome part with today was not having the ability to eat. I've grown accustomed to eating every 2 1/2 to 3 hours while sitting at home for the past couple days and I feel leaner and my muscles feel much fuller with the high protein consumption.

With the lack of calorie consumption throughout today, I felt compelled to make today my cheat day. I knew I would find myself in this situation so I planned Valentine's Day dinner tonight as well. I had the urge to venture off my diet for a meal so coupling it with the "holiday" allowed me to kill two birds with one stone. That way, I can keep on track and not have to face the consequences and repercussions of having two cheat days in three days. After what I consumed at Ruth Chris, I could afford to not eat all day tomorrow. There was enough butter on my ribeye to butter a whole loaf of bread. Blehhh!

I did manage to rock out a pretty decent arm and abs workout. I got very short clips from the WOD depicted one set of each of the supersets.

Access denied!

I'm FREEEE!!!! The plow finally came and I tried to hit up the gym for a change of scenery from my home but the gym was CLOSED! So what's a man to do in that situation? EAT! Linds and I stopped at Crisp and Juicy and indulged in some rotisserie chicken, plaintains, and black beans and rice. It was delish. I came home and got my lift on in my cold ass garage. It was a pretty half ass workout to be honest. I felt pretty sluggish and that's probably due to the fact that I was a slug for the past couple days. It was such a bizarre week that I'm not worried that today's workout was sub-par. No worries here. The snow is gone and we're back to normalcy soon. Then the countdown begins to the babymoon and then Memorial Day. Stoked!

Oh, more thing. I'm no longer go to calculate all totals for my diet. That crap takes a lot of time, and that's something that I just can't afford to be burning up on crunching numbers.

Feeling it

After finishing up yesterday's workout, I had worries that I didn't work hard enough. Boy was I wrong! I woke up this morning to feel incredible soreness throughout my body, particularly my rhomboids and legs. My lower back is sore as well but I knew that was forthcoming given the deadlifts and all the damn shoveling. In any event, today is legs and despite being a little sore in the lower extremities, I promised myself that the show must go on. Well, I broke that promise. I decided to shovel and it took much longer than anticipated. After doing the driveway and then the front stoop and sidewalk, I was SPENT!

REALLY?!?!

Come on mannnnn!More snow probably means another day at home tomorrow. I'll make the best of it though! At least it's not over the weekend for a change. Today was a more typical day in the life of Adam, in that I didn't have the luxury of being at home and having no agenda. DAMN IT!

I started today's back workout with 10 to 5 again with 225lb deadlifts and pull ups with a 1 minute break between sets. I followed it up with 55lb DB bent over rows with chin ups. I struggled with the chin ups in a major way and I'm realizing quickly that I need to improve here. Perhaps it's not a fair assessment when I always start with pull ups when I'm fresh rather than chin ups. Either way, the chin ups were kicking my ass! I finished up with rope pulls again. I love the squeeze I get with this movement. I don't really care too much about how much weight I'm pulling as I'm more focused on the mind muscle connection to get that squeeze.

225lb Deadlifts 10,9,8,7,6,5
Pull ups 10,9,8,7,6,5

55lb DB bent over rows 10,9,8,7,6,5
Chin ups 10,9,8,7,6,5

10 to 5 = 45!

I was JACKED up to get my swole on today! The thought of having to drive to Fitness First to get my workout in is a real drag, but I ALWAYS rock out once I get there. Perhaps it's the unfamiliar environment. I don't know anyone there and I keep to myself. That gym has a lot of posers sitting around chatting it up between sets. I think the extra motivation comes from the other trainers there that are always sizing me up when I walk in. Unfamiliar face on their turf sends the radar off I guess. Anyhow, I set up shop and got busy. I didn't get any footage on this b/c I'm sure that would have been really weird with those guys. I mean, they were already watching my every move as if I stole something so I chose not to record. As Crossfitters would say, here's the WOD (workout of the day).

If you're deciding to try this workout, remember, you're trying not to rest or as little as possible. Do 10 HSPU's and then immediately do 10 GHD sit ups then 9 HSPU's and then 9 sit ups and so forth.

HSPU's on 1.5 inch elevation 10,9,8,7,6,5
GHD sit ups with alt. hand touchdowns 10,9,8,7,6,5

Push presses with 95lbs 10,9,8,7,6,5
Hang leg raises 10,9,8,7,6,5

Hi pulls with 115lbs 10,9,8,7,6,5
Decline trunk twists with 25lb plate 10,9,8,7,6,5

Free Motion rev. flyes 40x15, 40x12, 40x12
L sits (seconds) 30, 25, 18

And we're off!

The roads suck and most people are home from work including me! I feel an overwhelming feeling of guilt for not having made it into the city to train the few die hard clients I have that were willing to meet. No work = no $$, which in turn does not make Adam happy. I guess there's no reason to piss and moan, but rather move on with my day. I crunched some numbers and here's what I came up with. I'm going to base my diet around a calorie consumption of 3,060 calories with 35% from protein, 40% from carbs, and 25% from fats. These percentages will yield 267g of protein, 306g of carbs, and 85g of fat. I think I might struggle to meet the protein requirement as it is 1.5g to 1lb of bodyweight. Nutrition is and will ALWAYS be the hardest part of any program. The correlation is there and you will look like what you eat. So if I'm eating all this protein, I'm hoping I will turn into all muscle!!

Here's my intake for today!

7:30AM Meal 1
----------------
4 ounces of pulled pork
1 tbsp of BBQ sauce
Slider sized bun-toasted
38 pro, 36.5 carb, 18 fat, 497 cal

10AM Mid Morning Meal 2
-----------------------
7.4 ounces of white rice
Turkey burger
1/2 ounce of polynesian sauce
41 pro, 76.5 carb, 9 fat, 545 cal

1 PM Meal 3
------------
Barilla Plus Angel Hair Pasta
6 oz of ground breef w/ marinara sauce
54.5 pro, 76 carb, 16 fat, 655 cal

4:30PM Pre and Post workout Meal
--------------------------------
Xtend-2 scoops
Syntha 6-2 scoops
44 pro, 30 carb, 12 fat, 490 cal

7PM Meal 5
----------
5 oz of flank steak
3.7 oz of rice
41 pro, 33 carb, 25 fat, 512 cal

9:30PM Meal 6
-------------
Muscle Milk Light
Optimum Whey - 1 scoop
44 pro, 14 carb, 6 fat, 290 cal

Projected totals 267 pro, 306 carb, 85 fat, 3060 cal
My totals 262.5 pro, 266 carb, 86 fat, 2989 cal

I was pretty much spot on with the protein, fats, and calorie intake, but a little light on the carbs. That's ok, if I'm going to be light anywhere, I would like to be on the short side there. I know, I didn't have much in terms of veggies. I've always been bad there. The only time I like veggies is in my chinese food! My workout today kicked ass, I'll post that here soon.

After much request....

here is the nutrition part of this blog. I'm going on, what pregnant women call a "babymoon" some time at the end of March. Probably to Puerto Rico or Riviera Maya. I'll be the first to tell you that the "Babymoon" is a bunch of crap but who am I to turn away an opportunity to go someplace in the Caribbean, away from all the damn snow we've gotten here lately. With that said, I will post my diet plan on here since there have been requests for it. I'll be honest, the following program will not be how I currently eat but not that far off from it. I can't tell you guys everything that I eat on a daily basis because I'm sure it would aggravate a lot of you so let's start with tomorrow going forward, haha. I'm going to supplement with Syntha 6, Optimum Nutrition whey, Muscle Milk for my casein, Extend for my aminos, and possilby some leftover Myoplex Deluxe meal replacement shakes when I'm working straight through without time to eat. My workouts will change slightly. As you know, the last time I stepped on the scale I was at 180.5lbs. I'm messing around with the percentages to figure out where I need to be, but it's not working out the way I was hoping. My RMR is about 2310 and my daily total caloric expenditure is in the ball park of 3200. I'll crunch the numbers and let you know what I come up with tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm gonna indulge in some Super Bowl junk food before I buckle down tomorrow. Saints are bringing this home!

Exhausted!

My first workout in Paik's Pain Factory was pretty anticlimactic. I hate having interruptions in my workouts, it F's my groove up. I pretty much ran through a very quick chest, arms, and ab routine with no real structure. I had this twinge in the outer part of my pec going into my shoulder that didn't allow for a full range of motion on my pressing movements. I knew I had a lot of snow to shovel so I bailed on my workout early and went to work with my shovel. I have a driveway big enough to fit 4 small cars so I had my work cut out for me. I finished up my workout around 2:45, took my post workout shake and aminos and got my game face on. I spent 3 hours in that mess. Glad that's over. My biceps got a lot of work so I took time to do tricep push ups periodically to give my tris some work. My neighbor caught me doing push ups and told me I was crazy. Can't work one and not work the other. I'll sleep good tonight.

This is NO joke!

This snowpocalypse or snowmaggedon is a HUGE pain in the ass. I hope it'll be cleared up for work on Monday. No work, means no $$. I ventured out for dinner last night with friends with plans of coming back early to get a late night lift. Oh yea, that did NOT happen. 4 beers and 3 shots later, I was ready for bed! I ran home and then began shoveling at midnight. Word to the wise, do not perform any strenuous activity (i.e. shoveling) while intoxicated as it will make you feel sick with a quickness. I felt like puking, but I was trying to shovel as fast as possible so that could have been the reason. Seeing how I am not going anywhere for the next couple days, there's no reason why I won't get back on track. I'll post pics of my new gym here soon. In the meantime, tune into Danish Crossfit Open, through 4 rounds, Blair is kicking ass and taking names.

Round 2

The second considerable snow storm of the year has arrived as predicted/expected! I worked a half of a half day and came home to a garage full of steel. This picture shows what I was dealing with before I went in and assembled all of my newly acquired equipment. The flooring is taking forever due to my obsession of wanting to put a giant "P" in the flooring for Paik Performance! I have a feeling that you won't even be able to see my creative artwork since space is limited and I have a lot of equipment to find places for. I'll find out soon enough.

As for the workout, no, I still have not had a chance to catch up from missing yesterday's workout. I may venture out to our local Italian restaurant for dinner so this workout is going to happen really late tonight. I can't fall behind ANOTHER day. I'm pretty annoyed right now.

Rest day..........unplanned

I took a rest day today that wasn't planned. The past two nights, I've been sitting in traffic trying to acquire all the equipment for my new home gym. I picked up the last load tonight and the garage doesn't look like much now, but this weekend will be spent setting everything up! I need to hit up chest, arms, abs, and cardio within the next two days so I don't get thrown off track. Stay tuned, for a lot of good things are to come. Gone!

Rehab

Another Wednesday gone! I spent today's workout slowly trying to rehab my knee. Sometimes I think I'm just delaying the inevitable but why go the route of surgery if I don't need it?!?! I suppose time will tell. This weekend is calling for LOTS of snow so I'm hoping my games will be canceled for both days, which will give me another week of rest for the knee. I think time will heal my injury, but it's killing me mentally. I'll just keep plugging away.

I'm picking up some new equipment for my gym tonight. After this acquisition, I'll need a few more things to be complete. I'll post pictures once it's all set up.

Battling the elements

I knew, with my luck and the weather forecast calling for snow this evening, it would start snowing during my workout. It was the inevitable so it was make excuses or get it in. I thought it was going to unbearably cold to be working outside given the snow we got over the weekend and with the low temps today but I was totally fine from the moment I stepped outside. It was a quick jog over to the playground. This is the second week in a row, on Back day, that I have opted to make use of my outdoor surroundings. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the concept of not using ANY weights or machines. Don't get me wrong, bodyweight movements are great, but I'm so used to using dumbbells, barbells, machines, and cables. During the workout, I'm smoked out, but shortly thereafter, I feel like I need to go back and do more. Hence my added pull ups and chin ups in the garage after I got back from the mile run. Here's the rundown:

Warm up jog

Traveling hammer grip pull ups 10, 10
Box jumps 20, 20

Traveling chin ups 10, 10
Box jumps 20, 20

Kipping pull ups 10, 10

Decline bodyweight rows 12, 10, 10, 10
Plyo bodyweight rows 15, 12, 15, 15

Mile run

Square bar pull ups-wide grip 12, 8
Square bar chin ups 10, 8

I enjoyed the traveling hammer grip pull ups. The box jumps were a breeze even with the gimpy knee. No problems there but I'll be sure to throw some ice on it post workout. I was burning out pretty fast and wasn't getting full range on my chin ups. My hands were cold and the lats were fading with a quickness. The 20 box jumps weren't enough. I should have done 30 or 40 to give me more recovery for my chins and pull ups. Now I know! The second set of kipping pull ups felt sloppy and I got confirmation that they most certainly were after viewing the footage. Two thumbs down there, I was dog tired at this point. I did 4 sets on the bodyweight rows to counter all the vertical pulls I just did. In total, we're looking at 98 vertical pulls (chins and pull ups) and 109 horizontal pulls (incline and decline rows). If I don't feel this tomorrow, I surely be in a gym for my next back workout. I did feel it last Tuesday so we'll see.

L sits are BRUTAL!

Shoulders and abs today AGAIN at 6:45 in the F-ing morning! I've been feeling as if my body has been battling on the onset of a cold / flu. I feel fine today but yesterday, not so much. The workout was nice and smooth. Getting footage was a real pain and a lot of the stuff I did get, I can't use b/c there's some employee walking in the background. What a waste of time setting the camera up. I could've gotten more in had I not had to worry about getting the camera set up. I'll tell you one thing, my abs are sore already from the L sits and extended planks. The L sits were so intense that my abs almost cramped up during each of the sets. I've messed around with these before but never held them til failure. Try these, they are NO JOKE! Everything else was good. I'm in the midst of making some changes in my schedule soon. I have to work smarter not longer. With that said, I should be able to devote more time to my training. I long for the days back in college where I could get my lift on without time constraints. Nowadays, every workout is a race against the clock.

Push presses 95x5, 115x6, 135x5, 155x4, 175x3
L sits til failure

Cable laterals with the cuff 32.5x10, 37.5x10, 37.5x8
Hanging leg raises 15, 15, 15

Incline F.A.R.'s 55x8, 55x8
Extended planks til failure

Bent over laterals 20x10, 20x8
Laterals 20x8, 20x8
